A man from who is responsible for multiple shootings in Memphis while broadcasting them on Facebook Live on Wednesday, is in custody, ending a more than two-hour crisis in which the police asked people to stay at home.
The police reported that around 9: 20 Officers arrested Ezekiel Dejuan Kelly in Whitehaven.
Police had advised people to stay indoors around 7 pm while they searched for the suspected shooter.
The Southaven Police Department tweeted that officers responded to the theft of a vehicle around 8: 50 pm at 580 Stateline Rd., Raceway gas station in Southaven. Police said they knew immediately that Kelly was the suspect.
Police confirmed Kelly was in custody after issuing a shelter-in-place alert for an area in Whitehaven.
Kelly has prior arrests for attempted murder in the first degree and reckless endangerment in 2020.
He was sentenced to three years but was released on 16 in March of this year. Police issued a first-degree murder warrant for Kelly on Wednesday night. Police did not immediately say how many people were injured or killed.
Police warned people to be on the lookout for Kelly in a gray Toyota with Arkansas plates AEV63K, after initially reporting that he was driving a Toyota with a red dealer license plate and a broken rear window.
The Facebook videos that Kelly posted early Wednesday were removed from the platform that night. Kelly’s Instagram account was also deleted Wednesday night.
Memphis Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Louis Brownlee said he heard secondhand reports that Kelly stole the SUV and injured the person in the car, but he can’t confirm that’s true.
