The American Frances Tiafoe assured this Wednesday that he could not sleep last Monday, when he eliminated the Spanish Rafa Nadal in the round of 16 of the United States Open, and that it was “the best day” of his life.

“It was tremendous, it was talked about everywhere. It was the best day of my life, I played great tennis, I knew I would have it later“, assured Tiafoe in the press conference after his triumph in the quarterfinals against the Russian Andrey Rublev.

“That night I couldn’t sleep, but last night I slept very well. It was a great win, but it was only the fourth round. I already played a few quarterfinals before. I just try to be focused on the moment”, he continued.

Tiafoe achieved the most important victory of his career against Nadal, number three in the world , and this Wednesday he became the first American semifinalist at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 550.

He was the protagonist of an outstanding performance against Rublev and won the applause of the Arthur Ashe public.

“I love playing on full courts. I feel like that’s why you train so hard, to show what you can do. I want to get out on the court and try to give the people what they want, which is for me to win”, he assured.

Tiafoe spoke at a press conference before knowing the name of his rival in the semifinals , one between the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz and the Italian Jannik Sinner, and expressed the wish that they would have a meeting of high physical demand.

“I think it will be a great match. I have no preferences over my rival. They are both tough opponents, they are great players. I just hope they play a marathon, a super long match, and that they get tired”, he said smiling.

“ They are two great players and we will see great tennis. I think they will be ‘big’ winners in their careers for sure,” he concluded.
