Images from the body cameras of border agents captured the dramatic rescue of a group of undocumented immigrants who were drowning in the waters of the Rio Grande in Texas.
The video reviewed by Telemundo Noticias shows when officers save the lives of four adults and a girl in the Eagle Pass area of Texas. One of the officers jumped out of the boat to help the minor, while another yelled at the rest to come closer and grab onto the boat.
“Grab her, pick her up,” he orders in Spanish. one of the officers in reference to the youngest.
“Hold on, hold on”, repeats an officer so that they approach the boat.
After disclosure of the recording , the head of the Border Patrol (CBP) in the Del Río sector, Jason Owens, urged people not to cross the body of water, except on these dates when rains are reported.
“There have been several days of rain, and when that happens, and more so here, the river comes out…and the river is very high and the currents are very rough and it is more dangerous than ever to try to cross,” Owens described.
There are no details of where the foreigners were transferred or their immigration status.
Over the weekend, authorities confirmed the death of at least nine immigrants trying to advance along the Rio Grande. In just one day, the water level of the so-called Rio Grande had risen more than 2 feet.
The bodies of the victims were recovered by Eagle Pass on Thursday. Officers on the US side found six bodies, while the Mexican authorities found three.
At the moment, the identity and origin of the deceased is unknown.
The river, with a little more than 3 feet deep at Earlier in the week, it reached 5 feet that day, and the water was flowing five times faster than normal, according to weather officials.
