Eugenio Derbez will star in a new version, characterized by comedy and in Spanish, of Tod Browning’s classic film ‘Dracula’.
The series, whose provisional title is ‘They Came At Night’, which will also be produced by the Mexican actor, was announced this Monday by the Deadline portal.
According to the outlet, the comedy will be inspired by real events and will offer a look between backstage to the group of people who created the critically acclaimed Spanish version of the horror classic by 2018.
Derbez commented in a statement held by Deadline that He has not worked on television comedy in Spanish with a script during before more than a decade, but was looking for a project as special as ‘They Came At Night’ to return to.
“This story caught my attention because it tells the story of Latinos who always have to achieve more with fewer resources and harsher conditions. It is also a world that we have never explored on television in Spanish, but as in all moments of the history of the United States, Latinos were there and did their part even if history forgot them,” said the Mexican.
Greenberg and Fisher will be executive producers along with Derbez, Odell and Javier Williams. While Visceral, 3Pas’s Mexican production services company, will be in charge of producing the project.
Rob Greenberg and Bob Fisher, who previously collaborated with Derbez on ‘Man Overboard’ by 2018 and ‘The Valet’ movie, are the creators and writers.
‘They Came At Night’ will premiere on ViX+ and will be produced between 3Pas Studios and TelevisaUnivision. So far the release date is unknown.
Meanwhile, Eugenio Derbez is recovering from an accident he had while playing a virtual reality game. During a recent live broadcast, the actor revealed that he tripped and broke his arm, for which he had to undergo surgery with 14 screws to rebuild it. His full recovery is expected in a period of eight months to a year.
