A Colorado woman who was arrested and was in the back of a patrol car was run over by a train, leaving her with serious injuries, authorities reported.

The incident took place when a Platteville police officer responded last 16 September to a report of a case of road rage involving a firearm about 30 miles from Denver, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The agents who responded to the call found a suspicious car and made a traffic stop.

The driver stopped after the railroad tracks and The officer parked the patrol car right behind the suspect vehicle on the train tracks, the CBI said.

Two officials from Fort Lupton arrived at the site and detained the woman, identified as Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, aged 16, suspicious of a threatening felony was seated in the back of the patrol car, CBI authorities reported.

“While officers were clearing the suspicious vehicle as part of the investigation, a northbound train collided with the PPD patrol,” CBI said.

The woman suffered “serious bodily injury” and was taken to a health center for treatment.

“She remains in a Greeley hospital with multiple injuries and is expected to survive,” according to a CBI press release.

For its part, the Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident, while the CBI was asked to investigate Rios-Gonzalez’s injury while she was in police custody.
