The prisoner who died yesterday after jumping into the East River while escaping from the “Vernon C. Bain Center” floating prison in the Bronx (NYC) was identified as Gregory Acevedo.

According to officials of the City Department of Corrections (DOC), 48 year old inmate jumped approximately 50 feet from the floating prison rooftop recreation yard at Hunt’s Point around 11: 44 am yesterday, after climbing a fence and crawling through barbed wire in an escape attempt, detailed Daily News.

In a statement issued this morning, DOC Commissioner Louis Molina said that Acevedo died last night at : 44 pm He had been transferred to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital after NYPD Harbor Unit cops pulled him out of the river unconscious and with a p heart hoop, and was taken to a pier on Rikers Island, which houses the city’s largest jail.
