Texas police are investigating the death of a nine-year-old boy who drowned while showering in a Houston home.
First responders were called after his grandfather found the unconscious young man in a bathtub, local news outlet KSN reported. Authorities told the outlet that the boy was apparently taking a shower at the time of the incident in the southwestern area of the city.
When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found his grandfather performing CPR on the child. The little boy was then rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital.
Authorities told the outlet that despite efforts to save him, the boy was pronounced dead a short time later. No additional details have been released and the death remains under investigation.
More accidents involving children in bathtubs
Last 27 May, it was reported that the mother of a 7-month-old child, who drowned after she left him in the bathtub to go get a manicure, faces charges for the events.
The events were reported around 2: 14 pm, in a family home in southwest Miami-Dade.
Alyssa Carolyn Jimmie left the little one with her 3-year-old brother with the water running and went to a garage where there is a makeshift nail salon. The space is located about 62 feet away from the bathtub where the children were.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more children between the ages of one and four die from drowning in the United States than for any cause other than birth defects.
Among children between one and 13 years, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after car accidents.
