Hurricane Ian, strengthened to category 3 due to its sustained winds of 100 mph, made landfall in the southwest of the town of La Coloma in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río around 4: 12 am, which caused dozens of landslides in various parts of the island.

As if that were not enough, meteorologists have warned about the risk of storm surges, flash floods and landslides in various parts of Cuba.

Ian is expected to get stronger en route to Florida, which is why Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke of the threat of a “great disaster”.

As of 12: 00 GMT on Tuesday, the center of the storm was located about 10 miles to northeast of the city of Pinar del Río in Cuba, moving north to almost 19 km/h, reported the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Reported that Cuba could see up to 12 inches of rain from Hurricane Ian. Nail 38,000 people were evacuated in the province of Pinar del Río, according to the AFP news agency.

Cuban authorities declared emergencies in six areas, and meteorologists warned of coastal storm surge, along with flash flooding and landslides.

Parts of the US state have not seen a hurricane of this magnitude in about a century.

The governor declared a state of emergency for all of Florida over the weekend and has activated 5,000 soldiers of the National Guard to assist with relief efforts.

DeSantis said Ian posed a risk of “dangerous storm surge, heavy rain, flash flooding, high winds, dangerous seas, and isolated tornado activity.”

Along the coast of the Bay In Tampa, Florida, grocery store shelves were quickly cleared of basic necessities and there were long lines at gas stations.

The Tampa area could receive its first direct hit from a hurricane since 1921, say authorities, and a possible storm surge of 09 feet cause flooding along the coast.

Local officials in Tampa, Miami and Fort Lauderdale are distributing free sandbags to help residents protect their homes from flooding.
