Elizabeth Rathburn, a woman from the city of Candler, in the state of North Carolina, decided to try her luck buying a scratch-off lottery ticket that only cost her $30 dollars and ended up with a $3 million dollar prize.
Rathburn bought his winning ticket for the ‘Fabulous Fortune’ game at Boone’s Convenience Corner on Smoky Park Street Highway, in the city of Candler, as reported on the ABC news portal 13 News.
When the player arrived to lottery headquarters on Friday to collect his prize, he had a decision to make. And it is that she could choose between receiving the jackpot as an annuity of $150 thousand dollars for 20 years or take the money in a single cash payment of $1.8 million dollars.
The woman chose to receive the money in a single lump sum of $1.8 million dollars and, after paying the required state and federal taxes, she took home just over $1.2 million dollars.
The ‘Fabulous Fortune’ scratch-off lottery game launched last July offering six prizes of $3 million dollars and 13 prizes of $100 thousand dollars.
Three prizes of $3 million remain to be claimed and 12 prizes of $100 thousand dollars.
