Nobody can deny that Shakira is living her darkest hours. First was her unexpected separation from Gerard Piqué and a few hours ago we learned that the Colombian singer will be tried in Spain, accused of defrauding the equivalent of about $ million dollars in taxes between the years 2012 and 2014, for which the Prosecutor’s Office asks for eight years and two months in prison and a fine of about $25 million dollars, as reported by EFE.
However, in the midst of all this chaos, Shakira celebrates that her song “Hips Don’t Lie” has around a billion streams on the SpotiFy platform, which sent the interpreter a plaque where the number of this great musical achievement is clearly reflected.
But Piqué’s ex has not kept the congratulations if she is alone, no. She shared this success with Wyclef Jean, who sings the song in a duet that was also one of the anthems of the World Cup 11 most famous in history, to date. To Wyclef Jean and the fans he says: “-Thank you- for the collaboration and all of you for your incredible support”.
Many have been the celebrities, friends, colleagues and admirers who have stopped to congratulate Shakira for this achievement and among them the official SpotiFy account on Instagram appeared to dedicate these words to the woman from Barranquilla: “One billion streams don’t lie! This track will always be a bop”.
Shakira will be tried for six crimes
EFE reported early that a judge agreed this Tuesday to open the oral trial of the artist so that she can be tried for six crimes against the Treasury in the Barcelona Court, where she lived when she was a partner of the soccer player Gerard Piqué.
Shakira (Barranquilla, Colombia, 1977) has already paid the amount that the Spanish Tax Agency required – plus another three million euros in interest -, which does not prevent her from having to sit on the bench at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office.
Shakira’s defense highlighted today that the opening of an oral trial is a “further step” in any process of these characteristics and added that the situation continues “its normal course”, according to a statement sent to Efe by the artist’s communication agency.
Shakira rejected the past 25 of July the agreement q that the Barcelona Prosecutor’s Office offered her to avoid being tried for tax fraud and she decided to go to trial, arguing then that she “fully” trusts her innocence, according to the source.
The Colombian artist has time to agree with the accusations -which include, in addition to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Treasury and the Catalan Tax Agency-, Until the moment of sitting on the bench.
As none of the sentences requested exceeds two years in prison and there is no criminal record, in the event of a possible conviction, the singer could benefit from a suspended sentence and avoid imprisonment, if so. the court agrees. Shakira now has ten days to present her defense brief.
