democrat-padilla-submits-registration-bill-to-senate-to-grant-citizenship-to-millions-of-immigrants

Democratic Senator Alex Padilla (California), chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, presented the Registration Law project to grant the Green Card to eight million undocumented immigrants, the first step to citizenship.

The project is similar to the one presented by Democrats in the House of Representatives, where it already has at least 60 co-sponsors.

The plan is supported by Representative Zoe Lofgren (California), who presented the original proposal in the House of Representatives, as well as Senators Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts) and Ray Luján (New Mexico).

Padilla cites economic estimates from the organization FWD.us, which indicate that if the undocumented persons covered by this bill became citizens, they would contribute approximately $83, million to the economy annually.

In addition, these immigrants would contribute around $27,000 million in taxes.
