The hurricane made landfall at that at 3 pm yesterday, 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Punta Gorda and 150 km (95 miles) south of Orlando, with winds from 125 miles per hour.

Search and rescue teams are mobilized this Thursday to respond to emergency calls, some from residents trapped in their homes.

Ian was downgraded to a storm tropical this morning with winds of 65 mph, and the center of the storm was 40 miles southeast of Orlando at 5 a.m. ET, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) report.

Authorities in Fort Myers imposed a curfew last night at 6 pm that will last for 48 hours.

Fort Myers in central Lee County has some 83,000 inhabitants.
