Two prisoners were found dead at Las Cucharas prison in Ponce (south) by correction officers, whose causes of death are being investigated by the authorities, the Puerto Rico Police reported this Thursday.
The first death is that of José A. Concepción López, who was found dead this Wednesday at 16: 23 (16: 23 GMT) at the Institution 676 by custodian officer Amael Rodríguez.
The officer gave the round preventive by the cells, when he found the body of the inmate lying face up.
Rodríguez tried to communicate with Concepción López, but she did not respond, so she decided to notify her supervisor.
The inmate was transported to the medical area of the Ponce Institution 500, where a doctor certified death.
Agents Enrique Mercado, from the Division of Homicide, and Jesús Mangual, of Technical Services, who took charge of the investigation.
Prosecutor Limarie Cobián ordered the transfer of the body to the Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) for autopsy purposes.
Meanwhile, at 08: 01 (12: 01 GMT) this Thursday, the death of the inmate Carmelo Rodríguez Caraballo, of 70 years.
According to information received by Command Center personnel, a call to the Ponce Oeste Precinct alerted the authorities about a dead person in the aforementioned prison institution.

Rodríguez Caraballo was admitted to prison this Wednesday for a Law case 35 (Domestic violence) in the Guayama area.
