The goalkeeper of the University of Chile, Martín Parra, was injured this Wednesday when he was hit by a firecracker that was thrown onto the field during the match against the Catholic University.
The fact appeared precisely at minute 4′ of the match, just after striker Fernando Zampedri scored a penalty goal.
In the middle of the celebration, the fans of the Catholic University threw the explosive device at the goalkeeper from the stands, and when it exploded, the goalkeeper fell to the ground stunned.
Parra had to be transferred to a nearby hospital, and the meeting of the Chilean league was suspended.
It was learned that Parra suffered acute acoustic trauma from the explosion of the firecracker, and presented constant dizziness.
Through a statement published on Twitter, the Professional Soccer Players Union of Chile claimed what happened and condemned the events. In addition, they made a wake-up call to the authorities of that country.
“Keep putting resources of not innovating to guarantee criminals, who have nothing to do on a soccer field. It is unpresentable that nothing is learned and that there are no exemplary sanctions. What do we expect, that a player dies?“, Indicated the union in the letter.
So far the National Association of Professional Soccer has not reacted to what happened.
