Travis Forbes was arrested in New Hampshire and extradited to New York as a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a bystander in New York’s iconic Chelsea neighborhood.
Jamal Burton (38) was stabbed to death on Seventh Ave. near W. 28th St. in the early morning of 31 of August. In the midst of a fight, the assailant pulled out a knife and stabbed him multiple times, police said.
Doctors took Burton, a resident of East New York (Brooklyn), to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he died. Forbes, aged 34, was arrested on September 8 and was extradited yesterday to New York on murder charges. He was detained without bail.
His accomplice, Nylisha Macon (42), had been arrested and charged with assault within hours of the stabbing, but police did not announce her arrest until Forbes was in custody, said Daily News.
Apparently Burton argued with both attackers and at one point Macon hit him. Forbes then pulled out a knife and plunged it into the victim’s chest multiple times, police said. It was not immediately revealed what sparked the fight. Burton resided in East New York, Brooklyn, within a mile of the detained woman, but it is unclear if they knew each other. Forbes lived in the Bronx.
In a similar case, yesterday an FDNY paramedic lieutenant aged 61 was stabbed to death while resting when she was attacked by a man with apparent mental problems on a Queens street.
