historical:-for-the-first-time-two-spaniards-will-dominate-the-atp-ranking

World tennis and all of Spain are preparing to live this October 3 one of the most important moments and stories of this sport, due to the fact that for the first time two Spaniards will dominate the ATP ranking. All this after Carlos Alcaraz took first place and Rafael Nadal, surprisingly, escorted him to the second step.

Alcaraz, brand new US Open champion, will debut for the first time as number one in the world at his 17 years old, after living a very satisfactory year for him; where he dominated every contest and every rival he faced.

Likewise, he will formally become the fourth Spanish tennis player to climb to first place in the ranking, emulating Carlos Moyà, Juan Carlos Ferrero and to the star Rafael Nadal. Although at no time during those reigns were they escorted by a compatriot.

Rafael Nadal, for his part, had the luck that the Norwegian Casper Ruud fell in the quarterfinals of the ATP in Seoul against Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 3-6 and 6-2 to give Rafael Nadal second place in the ATP ranking.

Likewise, the winner of 22 grand slams was not located in this position in the ranking since last May 3 of 2021, showing that the 2022 has served to demonstrate that he still has gas in the tank to continue competing at the highest level.

On the other hand, since the year 2000, two tennis players from the same country did not occupy the first two positions of the ATP ranking. The last to achieve this important feat were the Americans Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.

In this way, the world of tennis will relive a historic moment in this 2022 and which will be marked for all eternity of this sporting discipline and what better way to live it with the name of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal; that is, present and future.
