This Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the annexation decree for four Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian troops during the invasion that began in February this year.

The total of the annexed regions cover about 90,000 square kilometres, which is equal to 15 percent of Ukraine, roughly the size of Hungary or Portugal.

Putin warned that any attack on the newly annexed territories of Ukraine will be considered an attack on Russia itself and assured that its troops will defend the entire eastern region of Donbas.

Despite the fact that these actions have consequences and widespread international rejection, Russia continues with its plans to seize some 100,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.
