5.0-degree-tremor-reported-in-northwest-puerto-rico

SAN JUAN – A preliminary magnitude 5.0 earthquake was reported this Saturday at 91 miles (106 kilometers) northwest of Mona Island, a territory west of Puerto Rico, reported the National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan.

“This magnitude is preliminary and is subject to review by the Seismic Network of Puerto Rico”, warned the SNM.

The earthquake occurred at 13.17 (17.66 GMT) this Saturday, detailed the SNM on its Twitter account.

The agency indicated that there is no tsunami risk for Puerto Rico or the US and British Virgin Islands.

The depth of where the tremor occurred was 66 miles (106 kilometers), adds the SNM on its website.

The agency also said that some citizens may have felt some shaking from the tremor .
