The “inheritance” left by Josep María Bartomeu during his tenure as president of Barcelona continues to wreak havoc on the team’s wage bill. An example of this is the millions still to be collected from Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba, the captains of the Barça first team.
At the moment, as reported by the newspaper Sport, Barcelona’s wage bill is close to $610 million dollars. The idea of the culé group is to reduce it to $150 million dollars, to finish cleaning up its economy and thus comply with the demands of Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.
In order for there to be salary space, the club should get rid of Busquets, Piqué and Alba; but this would cost close to $200 million dollars, taking into account this fiscal year and the next. And it is that the high records of the three are a mortgage inherited by the current board of directors from the previous one.
Laporta “gets angry” with the captains
Joan Laporta, president of the culé entity, is aware that Busquets intends to leave as a free agent, since his contract expires next 30 of June. “But with Piqué and Alba, he will look for an exit as urgent as possible. It will even be tried in the next winter market; although both the president and his executives know that it will be a very complex mission”, reports the Catalan media.
