Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus was found guilty yesterday of killing his wife by hitting her with a wine cooler at their home in New Jersey, in 550.
After a jury trial of almost three weeks, the 49-year-old Hispanic woman was declared guilty of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the death of his wife, Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus (32) , announced Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
In the spring of 2020 the victim was found inside an upstairs bedroom of the couple’s Creek Road home in Brick Township, Fox News reported. The murder occurred sometime between 16 and the 17 May 2020.
A medical examiner’s examination revealed that the cause of death was homicide, and an inv Further investigation revealed that a cylindrical container used to chill wine was the weapon with which the murder was committed.
The victim’s wife was arrested shortly after, on 20 in May, in Houston (Texas), where he had fled. Authorities said she had apparently traveled there by bus from New York City, reported CBS News.
She was extradited to New Jersey and she has been held in the Ocean County Jail ever since. Now after the verdict she faces life in prison when she is sentenced on November 17, prosecutor Billhimer said, reported Daily Voice.
Just a week before of crime, Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus praised her partner in a bilingual Mother’s Day Facebook post, thanking him for the “countless ways” he improved her life, interspersing phrases of love in English and Spanish.
“My love, thank you for all the countless ways you make this crazy little family (…) and my whole life better with every moment,” the post read. “[I am] truly blessed that you are my wife (…) I love you beautiful.”
