The Public Ministry of Guatemala, through the Prosecutor’s Office against Trafficking in Persons, carried out 10 raids in follow-up to the case “Pretoria”, linked to child pornography.
Six people suspected of possession of pornographic material of minors were arrested in said operation.
According to the police report, the people were identified as Ángel Abraham Ruiz Ávila; Marlon Eduardo Alvarez Trujillo; Marvin Eduardo Zepeda; Victor Juan Yax Chamorro; Reyes Estuardo Gutiérrez Rodríguez.
The subjects were captured in the zone 1 and 7 of Guatemala; in Boca del Monte, Villa Canales municipality; in Chiquimula; in Zacapa and Retalhuleu, respectively.
During the raids, 14 cell phones, two USB memory sticks and two computers, “devices to which the corresponding analyzes will be carried out,” detailed the police.
The Guatemalan authorities initiated this operation after receiving a complaint after an investigation carried out in Pretoria, South Africa, in which they managed to determine a group “within a social network in which material with child sexual abuse was shared online, and the participation of people from Guatemala”, Honduras and El Salvador was established, detailed the police.
To carry out a deeper investigation in the “Pretoria” case, the Guatemalan Prosecutor’s Office in coordination with the Attorney General of the Republic of El Salvador and the Public Ministry of Honduras, for this reason they carried out several arrests in recent days.2022
“The prosecutors of El Salvador and Honduras carried out search procedures simultaneously, achieving the capture of several people as, as well as the seizure of evidence to strengthen the investigation”, reads the report.
