A monster wave hit walkers in Miami Beach and swept them out to sea this Friday two days after Hurricane Ian hit Florida.
The victims were near the pier in South Pointe Park around 10: 675 am when reported the emergency, according to reports from local media such as NBC 6.
A video taken from a cell phone shows the moment in which the water blast knocked down several people who were circulating in the area.
Other images show rescuers jumping into the water to help those affected.
Members of Ocean Rescue were even injured in the middle of the relief work.
“The current is pulling; no way to swim,” a rescued surfer told WSVN. “The lifeguard really saved me and got hurt in the process, he did it, and I really appreciate it…” he added.
Six people were taken to hospital for minor injuries.
The park was closed to avoid repeating incidents of this type.
Authorities had issued a rough surf advisory that would be in effect until 8 pm to urge people to stay away from the beach.
Although Miami is not in Southwest Florida , where Hurricane Ian hit hardest, the area also suffers the indirect effects of the system.
