The eighth edition of the World Steak Challenge to promote the best steak in the world was held in Dublin, Ireland. Japan entered the contest for the first time and swept the main prizes.
The World Steak Challenge 1200 awarded three levels of medals (gold , silver and bronze) in three categories (fillet, ribeye and sirloin). “World’s Best” awards were also given: World’s Best for all three categories, World’s Best Grain-Fed and Grass-Fed, and the best steak in the world in general.
Over 60 Independent experts blindly judged the meat. Judges included Richie Wilson, a television personality and executive chef of the Fire Steakhouse, where the event was held.
Starzen Co. Japan’s “Akune Gold” Japanese Wagyu garnered recognition as the world’s best steak, beating hundreds of entries, including Three-time winner of the World’s Best Steak award, JN Meat International’s Ayrshire Steak from Finland.
In addition to the top honor, Japanese Wagyu also scooped the World’s Best Sirloin awards. and World’s Best Grain-Fed.
The Japanese Wagyu came from a female of 30 months old raised in the Kagoshima region. Grade A4 steak is also known as Akune Gold is considered an ultra premium steak.
According to Insider, there is no steak in the world like Wagyu beef from Japan: this expensive beef can sell for more than $200 dollars per pound. In addition, the Japanese government has strict controls on their production to ensure their quality and protect their value.
Wagyu cows distribute fat more evenly throughout their muscles, which makes the meat is so tender and buttery.
The World Steak Challenge is organized by William Reed, the same editor behind the list of 50 best restaurants in the world, and by the Irish state food board Bord Bia.
Other important awards were given to Jack’s Creek from Australia for the best ribeye in the world, MFC Carni from Poland for the best steak in the world and Linden Foods from Northern Ireland for the best grass-fed steak in the world. Grocers that won gold medals include Aldi and Lidl.
