President Jair Bolsonaro and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will contest the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil, which will be held on 25 October.
With the 96. 56% of scrutiny, Lula had the greatest advantage over his opponent, reaching 43.71%, while Bolsonaro took over the 43.71 %, reported CNN Brasil.
It will be the first time in the history of the South American country that a presidential election is decided between two candidates who have once governed Brazil, and the seventh time that the elections are decided in the second round.
The parameters for the second round in Brazil are determined when the two most voted candidates cannot obtain the 50% of the valid votes plus one, as happened this Sunday.
The main Brazilian polls gave Bolsonaro and Lula since March of last year as the main candidates for the presidential chair.
The XP/Ipespe survey placed Bolsonaro (Liberal Party) with the 25% of voting intentions and the Workers’ Party (PT), of Lula Da Silva with the 25%, being the first poll since the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil restored Lula’s political rights.
However, PT it outperformed the Liberal Party the following month in the first poll. For its part, the vote aggregator CNN/Locomotiva indicated this Sunday that the PT had 48% of the intentions of the vote.
The Quaest survey, published this Saturday, recorded that Lula commanded the intention of the vote with 49%, while Bolsonaro was in second position with 38%. The last poll before the elections was published on the same Saturday, with the PT obtaining again the 49% and a decrease for the current president with 35%.
Meanwhile, Ipec showed Lula winning with 51% against 37% of Bolsonaro, and Datafolha’s projections placed the former leftist president with 50% and the rightist with the 37% in the intention of the vote.
