The driver of an MTA bus was stabbed by a passenger who lost control in Harlem on Saturday morning, in the latest attack against a transit worker in New York City, police said .
52 year old victim stopped at West 133 rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue shortly after 11: 00 in the morning when he noticed that two passengers were trying to get out through the closed back door of the vehicle.
Both men walked to the front door of the bus, but one of the suspects was furious at the disturbance and yelled at the driver. “Why didn’t you open the back door?”, he blurted out, according to the sources.
Then, the suspect spat at the driver and pulled a knife with a yellow handle from his waist, cutting the victim twice on the left forearm, while threatening to “go get my weapon”.
The offender fled the scene, while the driver was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
The attacker was described as a 5 foot 8 inch man, just over 30 years old, who was missing a tooth. He was dressed in a black leather jacket, a multicolored hoodie, black pants, and black sneakers.
The attack follows the recent assault on another MTA bus driver who was pepper-sprayed in early September.
In this incident, the driver of 35 was pulled over by a man in Washington Heights on 15 in September, the suspect boarded the bus, pepper-sprayed the worker and fled the scene, the NYPD reported.
