Two men confessed to killing a 6-year-old boy and using him as a human sacrifice to gain “prosperity” under the influence of drugs, according to authorities.

The murder allegedly occurred at a construction camp on Saturday night after the boy and his family celebrated Durga Puja, a Hindu festival celebrating the goddess Durga, near South Delhi, India.

El The boy, who has not been publicly identified, lived with his family in the construction camp, where his parents worked as laborers, according to a report by The Times of India.

After the festivities, the 6-year-old boy started walking back to his house around 10: 30 pm when the two suspects, identified as Vijay Kumar and Amar Kumar, they called him to their “kitchen area”, according to the report.

When the boy approached the two men, his They then began to beat him on the head and cut his throat, according to the newspaper.

Her parents told local authorities that they realized that their son had disappeared after they began to return to their “sheds”. The boy’s father said he noticed blood coming out of his family’s shed. When he opened the door, he discovered his son’s body under the cot, according to the Times.

Since then, local police have arrested the men and the case has been registered as a murder , reported the newspaper. Police also said they recovered the knife used in the alleged murder, as well as clothing the suspects were wearing at the time.

Vijay Kumar allegedly told police that he became “disillusioned” after consuming “prasad”, a religious food offering in Hinduism. He said he believed he needed to make a “human sacrifice” to gain prosperity and therefore killed the boy, according to the Times.

Police told the Indian Express that the two men had consumed “smack or ganja” and wanted to “please” the gods.

“Further investigation revealed that Vijay had a ‘vision’ about the murder. He claimed that he used drugs and approached some women looking for incense sticks. However, they refused to help him. He came back and then saw [a god] in the ‘vision’ of him. He then picked up the boy and killed him inside his shed. The defendant disclosed this in his disclosure statements,” Police Deputy Commissioner Chandan Choudhary told the Express.

The boy’s father, who was also not identified, told the media outlet that he hoped the boy and his sister would join the school soon, as they had recently moved to South Delhi.
