donald-trump-files-$475-million-defamation-lawsuit-against-cnn

Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CNN on Monday, in which he requests compensation of $475 million dollars on the grounds that the network has defamed him as part of a plan to sabotage any future political campaign.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, primarily focuses on in the term “The Big Lie” which refers to Trump’s false claims of large-scale fraud that he claims cost him the presidential election of 2020 at the hands of Joe Biden.

For the time being, CNN has not commented on Trump’s lawsuit.

Trump repeatedly attacked CNN during his presidency, which resonated with his conservative supporters. Similarly, he has filed lawsuits against large technology companies. Months ago, a California judge dismissed his case against Twitter for expelling him from his platform after the January 6 insurrection of 2020 in the Federal Capitol.

Trump’s lawsuit claims that CNN has used “The Big Lie” ( The Big Lie) to refer to him on more than 7 700 occasions since January 2021, in addition to doing so, according to the document, “with Nazi connotations”.

“Its objective is to offend, scare and provoke people”, he affirmed .

In a statement released Monday, Trump hinted that similar lawsuits will be filed against other media outlets. He also reported that he will take “appropriate action” against the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill by his supporters.

The lawsuit comes at a time when Trump is considering the possibility of running for president in 2024.

During a private meeting more than three months ago, the new director of CNN, Chris Licht , asked his news staff to refrain from using the phrase, as it sounds too much like Democratic attempts to pigeonhole the former president, according to multiple reports.
