In mourning, this is international football for the death of 17 children due to the barbarism that occurred in a stadium in Indonesia, where at least 125 people lost their lives. This is one of the most daunting tragedies in the history of the king of sports.

In a statement, the minors department of the Indonesian Ministry of Women and Child Protection specified this number of minors killed by events that occurred on Saturday night. This is reported by the Indonesian news agency Antara.

About 3,000 Fans of the Arema club invaded the pitch of the Kanjuruhan stadium, in the city of Malang, after losing 2-3 against Persebaya Surabaya. They later clashed with security forces, who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. So far there are 125 deceased, including 17 children, and more than 320 injured.

Initially, the authorities had reported that 174 people died during the riots. However, they lowered the figure to 125 on Sunday night, given that there was an error in the hospital registry who treated the victims, as explained by the Indonesian National Police.

The angry crowd attacked the police officers and destroyed part of the structure of the sports center; while security agents responded with tear gas and use of force in an attempt to stop the attacks. This caused panic among the fans and triggered the stampede, according to an Efe review.

According to Nico Afinta, chief of police in East Java, most of the deaths were caused by the stampede of fans. Many lost their lives asphyxiated, and that FIFA prohibits the transport and use of tear gas in stadiums.
