pele-blunt-about-the-tragedy-in-indonesia:-“violence-does-not-combine-with-sport”

One of the greatest players in football history, Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, better known in the world as ‘Pelé’, went to the social network Instagram to reject violence in football due to the tragedy in Indonesia that claimed the lives of 125 people in a football stadium.

Regarding the message he wanted to convey, Pelé pointed out that violence does not combine in any way with sport and that it is in turn must always be linked to love.

“I wish much peace and love to all the people of Indonesia. Violence does not combine with sport. There is no pain in defeat that justifies us losing love for our neighbor. Sport should always be an act of love”, he pointed out.

This message came along with a photo of what appears to be a tribute with candles, photos and dedications for those who died in the events that occurred on October 1.

The Indonesian soccer tragedy has been one of the most shocking in the world, claiming the lives of 125 people, among whom 32 children, presumably due to the action of the local police who sprayed excessive amounts of tear gas.
