United Airlines temporarily stopped its service at JFK airport in New York, since the number of flights they currently have in that place is so small that they do not allow them to be competitive, according to the company.
And it is that the airline said that the beginning of the winter season caused more airlines to have more flights arriving and departing from JFK, which affected the number of flights they had.
“The importance of JFK to our operation has not changed: we believe New York customers deserve more choice, and United’s strong service to JFK is good for our customers, our employees and our airline,” he said. United Airlines, according to CNN.
“As a result , we will continue our search for a larger and more desirable schedule for our customers and we will be ready to take advantage of those opportunities when they arise”, added the company.
United Airlines has been negotiating Going to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to acquire additional schedules or takeoff and landing clearances at JFK. In addition to advocating for the agency to update its evaluation of the airport’s capacity.
United Airlines said that its conversations with the administration have been constructive and that it is clear that the FAA takes serious about operational improvements in the New York region.
But United said these improvements would take time.
“The FAA is dedicated to doing its part to safely expand New York City’s airports and airspace capacity. We will follow our fair and well-established process for awarding future slots to increase competition among airlines so passengers have more choice,” the agency said on Sunday.
Earlier this month, United Airlines threatened to withdraw service from the airport if the FAA did not grant additional spaces. The airline had resumed service at JFK in March 2021 after a 5-year hiatus and was also trying to acquire slots from other airlines.
United said that 100 employees work at JFK and the airline assured the team that they will not lose their jobs and instead will be transferred to nearby locations.
The suspension will begin on 29 October. United Airlines said it is working with customers who have tickets booked after that date to find a solution.
