This Monday, the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Kevin Guthrie, confirmed 58 deaths so far from the passage of Hurricane Ian.
The majority of these deaths have been due to drowning or cardiac arrest.
The authorities reported that they will continue to search for victims and expect the figure to increase in the coming hours and days.
Since last week, more than 1,600 people have been rescued in the state of Florida after the passage of Ian.
Five days after Ian made landfall on Key Coast in southwestern Florida with winds of 58 km/h. at least 600,000 people continue without electricity.
During the press conference, Guthrie estimated that by next Sunday the power system will be restored almost in its entirety, with the exception of houses and buildings with “catastrophic damage ”.
Finally, the director of this institution thanked the more than 43,000 workers who shortly after the passage of the hurricane have managed to restore electricity to more than two million people.
