A North Carolina state lottery player got the surprise of her life by becoming a millionaire by making a small investment of just $20 dollars when buying a scratch-off ticket.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, the woman, named Susan Underwood, purchased a ticket for the lottery scratch-off game called ‘Millionaire Maker’ at the Rollinghill Express store located on West Roosevelt Street in the city of Monroe.
The scratch-off ticket turned out to have a top prize of $1 million dollars.
Lottery officials said Underwood chose to collect the money in a single payment in cash that consisted of $600 thousand dollars. The other option he had been offered was to receive the full million in annual payments of $50 thousand dollars for 20 year.
