Óscar de la Hoya continues to doubt the capabilities of Mexican boxer Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, and has now questioned his refusal to fight David Benavidez.
Although “Canelo” has affirmed on several occasions that he will not face Benavidez, since he considers that he is a fighter who “has not won anything”, De la Hoya hinted that the reasons why he refuses to fight him are other.
“Canelo will never fight him. He is too young and talented“, affirmed the promoter through his social networks.
Due to his category of internal champion of the World Council of Boxing (WBC) at 168 pounds, David Benavidez could fight for the world championship that Álvarez owns if the body orders it, but if he is named As a franchise champion, he is not obliged to face him.
In short, Benavidez would only fight Canelo if the same guy from Guadalajara accepts him, something that apparently is not going to happen.
If something is true, it is that “Canelo” will not play any more fights for the rest of the year due to surgery that will be performed on his right hand to correct an injury he has.
Álva’s intention rez would seek a rematch against Dmitry Bivol, to redeem his performance in May, and that can happen as long as the Russian beats “Zurdo” Ramírez in the fight on November 5.
