As absurd as it may seem, Real Madrid ended up being the great beneficiary of the premature elimination of Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla in the group stage of the Champions League. And it is that the meringues will receive an economic benefit for being the only club in Spain that qualified for the round of 16 of the tournament.

The newspaper Marca reports that Real Madrid will enter $8.6 million dollars for the market pool, the distribution of audiovisual rights distributed by UEFA, based on the teams that represent each country.

Last season, the Spanish clubs shared $28 million dollars for the market pool. After winning the Champions League final, Real Madrid pocketed $17.8 million for these audiovisual rights, of the slightly more than $300 million that UEFA distributed to all countries for this concept.

For this edition, UEFA distributed half the amount ($28.5 million dollars, based on the allocated amount of the course 2021/22), by distributing it based on league position last campaign. In this sense, Real Madrid would be entitled to a 40% ($11.2 million dollars) as champion.

With the elimination of Barcelona, Atlético and Sevilla in the Champions League, it is estimated that those led by Carlo Ancelotti could take an extra $8.7 million dollars, as there are no more Spanish teams in the round of 16.

To this amount must be added the $3.9 million dollars for his six games in the group stage of the Champions League. In total, he could take home $26.8 million dollars, for the $ 16.8 million from the previous season.

To get an idea of what the market pool represents, Juventus set a record of $110 million dollars in the season 2016/17, and that he lost the final against Real Madrid himself. A similar case occurred with PSG in 2020, when they played the final against Bayern Munich, they received $126.8 million dollars, for the $125.4 million from the champion.
