The Spanish National Police arrested a man at the border with France as the alleged perpetrator of the robbery in the house of Karim Benzema, captain of Real Madrid, committed in the past January.

The subject was located early Thursday morning, when he was about to cross the Spanish border with France, in La Junquera (Girona). There he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a robbery with force and, after going to court, he was imprisoned, according to the statement published by the police this Friday.

About the alleged perpetrator of the robbery weighed an arrest warrant issued by the court of instruction number 2 of Alcobendas (Madrid). This is reported by the news agency Efe.

Robbery at Benzema’s house

The investigation began last 23 January, when the Agents learned of a robbery with force that occurred at Benzema’s home, while he was playing a game at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. After forcing the windows to break, the alleged perpetrators of the robbery entered the home, stealing items of great economic value.

Since then, the Provincial Brigade of the Madrid Judicial Police has been trying to identify to the alleged perpetrators, an investigation during which continuous contact has been maintained with the French police and a European Arrest Warrant has been issued.

Karim Benzema will be absent for this Sunday’s game against Girona, as a result of muscular overload. The French striker did not play either the last round of LaLiga or the Champions League.
