Her name is Gleydi Cartaya, but we all know her as ‘The Queen of Cosmo’, that character who is almost her and who became a worldwide phenomenon on social networks, from which celebrities such as Shakira, Kuno Becker, George Harris, Mario Lopez, among others are watching and even sharing their stories.
Exclusively, we speak with the Venezuelan who gave birth to this ‘Queen of Cosmo’ in the pandemic, in honor of the true queen, his mother, who is a daily part of his jokes and his driving force.
Now he lives in Barcelona, he dreams of finally taking his mother to live with her, and why not come to Hollywood writing or producing films or series.
Meanwhile , we get into his privacy, where he confesses that, although everything seems spontaneous, his premise is to take care not to hurt anyone, that the space is a big family, and he continues to be moved by the messages of those who assure that his videos change the day humor and even saves their lives.
-What is behind the phenomenon of the Queen of Cosmo? who are you, are you real?
Gleydi Cartaya: I am the 70% of the you see on social networks, I have a quite particular humor, I describe it as not black humor, but matte dark gray, because even though I mess with everyone, I don’t mess with anyone, so that’s what I take good care of myself, and we add to that, that I’m a Gemini, and we add to that, that I’m immature, and we add to that that I’m a woman… Wow, it’s an explosion, I have too many mood swings during the day.
-How did you decide to create the Queen of Cosmos, and did you imagine that this world phenomenon would be?
Gleydi Cartaya: I was born in the pandemic, in Chile, because I lived in Chile, and my partner at the time is a doctor, therefore, he had more work than me, so basically I was left alone in the house, and you can imagine a mind like mine, that does not rest, alone, without being able to talk to anyone, I decide to create the bill.
Apart from the fact that my mom at that time had taken some pills thinking it was for pain and it was for something else, and she knocked her down, that was horrible, I had a horrible scare because I I used to pull the pranks on her, but I didn’t document them, I had them. As a result of that I said: “I have to put together a kind of digital album”, because I was far away, she was there, and the law of life says that she comes first, but one does not know, what happens if they rob me? the phone? If I lose it? If I lose conversations with her? That was really why I open the account, and that’s why it’s called the Queen of Cosmo, because it was based on her, the jokes I made on her, the conversations I had with her.
Manuel, my friend, tells me: “But why don’t you open an Instagram to your mom?” … That’s where I start and I start, in fact, at first they were voice notes from her, because they were joking with her, only there was a moment when no matter how clueless she was, she didn’t fall anymore, and I started like a show me a little more too, and people liked it too.
That’s really where it changed me, in the sense that I was able to leave the 2 jobs, and dedicate myself to what I liked, because sometimes, in my lunch hour you saw me as a crazy person recording, editing, on the subway . Sometimes I felt a little frustrated that I was involved in a job, and I said: I want to record, I want to interact with people, I want this idea, and I couldn’t, well, because cooking, imagine, well, no I can, and I could. In that aspect, I feel that my life has changed in that regard, because many doors have opened for me, you meet many people, and with issues of my mother too, I have her far away, but they love her so much, that if I go out saying : “I need them to look for my mother and take her”, they take her, yes it has been quite positive
-This change also creates a responsibility, it is already your job, you have to fulfill your public and fulfill yourself, how does it change in that sense of your life?
Gleydi Cartaya: It doesn’t change because like in the movie ‘Sixth Sense’, the child who sees dead people, I see idea, idea, idea, idea, idea, idea… If it were up to me, I would record 4 or 5 videos a day, only I try not to saturate so much, and I try to make people, obviously, expect something so they don’t get bored, but It hasn’t happened to me, it hasn’t gotten to the point where I say: I don’t know what to do, so I enjoy it. I feel that it is certainly a job but that I like it.
-Do you feel that responsibility for the messages you are going to give?
Gleydi Cartaya: Yes, I take care of it, Although you see my account very organically, I take care of it with every detail, every word I can say, that can offend, I speak everything in the first person, not everything happens to me, but when speaking in the first person I feel that I am not messing with nobody, but myself, and there I make people feel confident, and say ‘it happens to me too’, and that is what I think has caught on.
I mess with an aunt, but it can really be a friend, it can be anyone. I use a reference to my aunt, I use a reference to a boss… Who didn’t want to include 181 thousand excuses to a boss?… Not all that happens, obviously, but I see the situations and I always take it to the first person, I do not use words that can offend people. It’s a humor for really quite intelligent people, and it’s what I like about my followers, that I don’t have to explain the joke.
-Many think that this is not a job, that they earn money having fun, how is your day?
Gleydi Cartaya: Yes, I totally have a routine, I wake up, I drink my coffee, I check the messages, I check the advertisements, I have a content plan , I say to my clients: look at such a day, such a day… I always try to comply with my client, I have time to have lunch, at this moment he recorded, at this moment he interacted, yes I manage a work routine.
-The pandemic ends in confinement, you are already installed as The Queen of Cosmo, you move to Spain, what do people say to you on the street?
Gleydi Cartaya: They ask me for photos, which, how fine, they love it. What happens is that I see the account quite familiar because I talk about moms, I talk about aunts, I talk about bosses, I talk about roommates, so someone doesn’t always come to me specifically for a video, but for many topics… Yesterday I told my boss that, look, my boss is now following you, now my boss I don’t know what, my aunt I don’t know… It’s like many topics for which many people who follow me, for every little thing. For the doctor, for example, I have also won that union because the doctors wanted to respond like that and they can’t, but ‘doctor Dulce’ can, so it’s like a little bit of everything.
–? What does your mother say?
Gleydi Cartaya: She enjoys it, what happens is that my mother has had that personality all her life as you see her, and as you hear her, very sure of her little things, so she knows that she is talking all bullshit, she doesn’t care, she has her personality and we have a similar humor, because if not this account could never have existed, if she didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t do it going through that awkward moment… She feels super proud of me, that’s like I’m already in Hollywood.
-And would you like to get to Hollywood?
Gleydi Cartaya: I would like, you know what I would like, the part of writing, of producing. There are people who go to a gym, there are people who read a book, there are people who make recipes to drain, I don’t, I think, I think, I think about ideas, to the point that I confess that sometimes at night I get up at 4 in the morning make a video.
–What would happen if, for example, call you Guillermo del Toro, Eugenio Derbéz and say: Look, I need you in Los Angeles, because I want you to be part of the script for my film?
Gleydi Cartaya : I’m leaving, excuse me, with my passport, I already have my suitcase ready, when is it?… Not for me, imagine it would be an honor.
-This openness that you have and this worldwide phenomenon that you created it’s like the tip of an iceberg and you talk about your dream of reaching Hollywood, but what do you want as the next step?
Gleydi Cartaya: I want to settle down well, and I don’t want to live only from the networks, I would like to set up a side business. The day that I don’t feel like going out, not having that responsibility like, well today I don’t monetize, it’s like the shortest-term goal I have. Obviously I would love to write productions, such as plays, be the writer, I would love to participate in a Netflix production, be it on screen, well, I am not an actress, but I would like to be more like that part of production.

-Even if you are not an actress, you perfectly have us all trapped like any soap opera or any series…
Gleydi Cartaya: People ask me Stand Up, I don’t rule it out, I feel that for that you still have to prepare a little more, especially as I tell you, I’m very jealous of my followers, and I would love that the moment I stand up on a platform, it’s because I really have some knowledge, even from breathing into a microphone, not crazy, I would not like to go crazy.
-What do you like to do, beyond the the videos?
