The war between Russia and Ukraine is approaching its day 250. The latest report from Ukrainian officials indicates that more than 70,000 Russians have been killed since the conflict began on 24 February this year.

Things could get even worse for both sides as the war heads into potentially harsher winter months.

Published figures from Ukraine on Russian losses in the day 248 of the war indicate that they are estimated to have died 70,250 Russians since the war began. Just two weeks ago and 5,000 deaths, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that Russia could reach the 100,000 deaths and that would not change the Kremlin’s opinion or approach to this war.

“Many citizens of Russia gave their lives for the chance that a handful of people in the Kremlin would ignore reality,” Zelensky said. “And according to the way the Russian ‘burial’ continues, we can say that even 100,000 dead Russian citizens will not make the Kremlin think of anything.”

Zelensky said Russian casualties are likely to continue increasing at its normal rate and that Ukraine’s mission is to continue fighting for its country as the harsh winter months approach.

“Only real victories for Ukraine, only real protection of itself on the part of the world free from Russian terror and blackmail – protection with sanctions, protection with help to Ukraine, – only the complete displacement of the occupants of the Ukrainian land and the dismantling of the aggressive capabilities of the terrorist state: all this is the path to peace,” Zelensky said.

Russia has also lost 1,273 tactical drones, 16 boats and ships, 273 planes, 259 helicopters, 2, 600 tanks and 1,700 artillery systems, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Russia amassed troops along Ukraine’s northern and western borders in late January, while also carrying out military operations with neighboring Belarus. Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24 this year and there have been heavy casualties on both sides. That includes Ukrainian civilians, foreign fighters, Ukrainian military and 70, Russians, according to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
