Artificer of the only two ‘Scudetti’ of Naples, Maradona is considered a God in the city of southern Italy. His importance transcended football and he is considered just another Neapolitan. The union of the Argentine star with the club and the city is already eternal, they always go hand in hand. And even more so now that the stadium bears his name.

Something that becomes even more relevant seeing the spectacular start of the men led by Italian Luciano Spalletti in Serie A, where they are the sole leaders, and in the League of Champions, already classified to the round of 16 and with the possibility of doing so as first in the group.

Napoli’s last great performance was this Saturday against Sassuolo, which they won with a resounding 4-0 thanks to the triplet of the Nigerian Víctor Osihmen and the goal of the Georgian Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, curiously nicknamed by the Neapolitan ‘tifosi’ as ‘Kvaradona’.

Before the start of the match, a tribute was made to the ‘ Diego’ in the stadium that now bears his name and in which his former coach Stefano Ceci, former Napoli teammates Salvatore Bagni, Nando De Napoli, Gianfranco Zola, Pietro Puzone, Enrico Zazzaro, Antonio Carannante and masseur Salvatore Carmando participated.

“I was lucky enough to live with him for a while. A beautiful time, full of learning and experience. I would say that period was one of the reasons I became the player that I was. I owe it to Diego”, said Zola in the tribute.

In addition to the name of the stadium, Napoli placed a statue of Maradona after his death in the locker room tunnel, the work of the Italian Stefano Ceci.
