Pachuca ratified the scoring power shown last Thursday against Toluca and this Sunday they were crowned champions of the Liga MX Opening Tournament by beating Toluca 3-1 and leaving an aggregate of 8-2 adding the game of first leg where they won 1-5.

Pachuca’s title came thanks to a couple of Argentine goals from Nicolás Ibáñez and Gustavo Cabral, as well as another from Mexican Víctor Guzmán; Raúl López discounted for Toluca.

After the win in the first leg last Thursday, Toluca came out by a miracle: converting a goal each 13 minutes without receiving any. He went ahead against a rival waiting patiently, however, he did not create danger until the minute 21.

On that occasion, a right-footed goal by Raúl López with the complicity of goalkeeper Oscar Ustari gave hope to a Toluca that could not materialize the reaction.

Toluca faded on the field of play and Guzmán took advantage of this to put on a rebound near the end of the first half, making it 1-1, after a missed penalty by Ibáñez.

Pachuca put the tombstone to the Devils in the 52 with a forehand goal from Ibáñez to break the tie with 38 minutes to play.

The rest was anecdotal with Cabral’s goal from the penalty spot to increase the final score to 8-2, one of the widest differences in title dispute series in Mexico.

Pachuca was confirmed as the most winning team in Mexican soccer in the last quarter century, adding its seventh title of league from 1999 to its five Concacaf titles, the South American Cup of 2006 and a third place in the Club World Cup.

For its part, Toluca maintained the drought of titles in the Liga MX and it’s already been the years that the club owns without raising the local cup.
