The Spanish soccer player, Pablo Marí, received a medical discharge this Sunday after being stabbed in the back on Thursday night in a supermarket on the outskirts of Milan, Italy.

On Thursday night, Marí was with his wife and son shopping at the Carrefour supermarket, when he was attacked by an Italian man from 46 years with mental problems.

In the attack, five other people were also injured, including an employee of the establishment, who died while being transferred to the hospital.

The attacker, identified as Andrea Tombolini affirmed that he committed the attack because he felt “envy” seeing “all those happy people”.

The player indicated that he and his family are fine despite the circumstances and thanked all support messages.

“After the hard time we experienced yesterday, both my family and I want to communicate that fortunately we are all fine despite the circumstances, and thank all the messages of support and affection that we are receiving”, published Marí on her Twitter account.

“In addition, we want to send our condolences and all our strength to the family and friends of the deceased person, and we sincerely hope that all the injured people recover as soon as possible”, added the Valencian.

As EFE learned, Marí will not be able to return to training until at least two months from now.

“The operation went well and he is expected to be discharged in two or three days” and afterwards “the player will be able to start a rehabilitation process. This type of muscle injury usually requires two months of rest before being able to resume physical activity”, reads the medical report sent to EFE.
