An all-night shooting at a Brooklyn Halloween party ended with a man dead and a woman injured early Sunday morning, according to police.
Inside the party, held in a rental space above a restaurant equipment store on Atlantic Ave. near Grand Ave. in Crown Heights, shots were heard at 6: 20 in the morning, authorities reported.
The fatal victim was identified as Michael St. John, aged 28, who was shot in the back and lost life on the scene.
Likewise, a woman from 51 years old was shot in the elbow and headed to Kings County Hospital, police officials said. The injured victim is expected to recover from her injuries.
So far it has not been clarified who the intended target was. St. John resided at Prospect Lefferts Gardens.
Outside the St. John’s apartment building on Sunday night, the father of the murdered man struggled to find the words to express himself.
“He is my son and I lost him”, said the father. “It hurts”.
A hockey mask inspired by Michael Myers from the movie “Friday ” was among the evidence while the Detectives were investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made in this regard.
“We just rented the space,” a member of the site’s cleanup team told the Daily News. “I am puzzled. It was just a Halloween party. It is a beautiful place. We have never had any problems here. People come and try to have a good time. It’s not a bad place, but there’s always a bad apple in the group”.
Residents described the parties as noisy.
“They have rave parties on the weekends,” said the owner of a nearby auto repair shop. “They go wild.”
A man who answered a phone number on a “for rent” sign at the party venue reported that he had not heard of the shooting.
“I am surprised”, he declared the man. “I had no idea. I don’t know anything about it. I’m on holidays right now. I’m not in New York”.
