An area of low pressure with a high probability of becoming Tropical Storm Lisa has Jamaica and the island of Grand Cayman, in the Caribbean, on alert this Monday before producing a possible impact in Central America.
The system has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 km/h) and is located about 165 miles (265 km.) south of Jamaica, according to the forecast of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States, which foresees that a depression may form during the course of today tropical.
Jamaica and Grand Cayman Island, both under a tropical storm warning, will feel the effects of this system throughout today and Tuesday.
With a westbound transfer to 12 miles per hour (19 km/h), the depression and eventually future Tropical Storm Lisa could reach toward midweek the east coast of Central America, even as a hurricane, according to the NHC.
The meteorological center, based in Miami (Florida), recommended in parts of Central America, especially in Belize and the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, monitor the development of the system.
The last cyclone formed in the Atlantic basin this season, which ends this 30 of November, was Karl, a tropical storm that hit the Mexican coast of the Gulf of Mexico in mid-October.
Ian, the fourth hurricane of 2022, since its formation in the central Caribbean last September left a trail of destruction, especially in western Cuba and Florida, where it crossed the peninsula from west to east to reach the Atlantic and then hit South Carolina.
