A six-year-old autistic boy from South Florida, reported as eclipsing at the end of last August and allegedly kidnapped by his father, was found “safe and sound” in Canada, authorities reported this Sunday.

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) confirmed this Monday that the minor of Hispanic origin Jorge “Jojo” Morales was recovered in good condition by the Canadian Mounted Police.

“’Jojo’ was uninjured and in good health,” the MDPD noted.

According to detectives , last August the child was picked up by his paternal grandmother, Lilliam Pena Morales, aged 68 years old, in compliance with a timeshare court order.

But the minor’s father, Jorge Gabriel Morales, of 30 years old, did not return him home and the child’s mother, Yanet Leal Concepción, contacted the Police to report the incident.

Missing persons detectives were notified and began an investigation.

This led to the issuance of an “Amber Alert”, commonly used to locate missing or kidnapped children.

Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against the child’s father.

As reported, the boy’s father and paternal grandmother have been detained by the Canadian Mounted Police.

“This is another example of how local, state, federal and international law enforcement , along with the United States and the State Attorney’s Office, are united for the safety of a child and will continue to work together to fight the greater evil,” MDPD Director Freddy Ramírez said in a statement.

The mother of the little one “ Jojo”, who lives in Homestead, in southern Miami-Dade County, had previously confirmed to authorities that her son is on the autism spectrum and sometimes has difficulty communicating.
