A new assessment of a US intelligence report on UFOs attributes many military sightings of unidentified flying craft to foreign surveillance drones or airborne debris, The New York Times reported.
The latest revelations are contained in a “classified” update to a report from last year that investigated 144 UFO sightings by part of the United States government personnel between 2004 and 2021, sources told the Times. That update is expected to be delivered to Congress this Monday.
The sources, who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, said that several cases of unknown aerial phenomena have been attributed to the technology of “relatively mundane” drones used by the Chinese government.
Beijing, which is known to have stolen blueprints for next-generation fighter jets according to the outlet, is also interested in how American pilots are trained, the sources said.
However, Sue Gogh, a spokeswoman for the Department of Defense, said that no explanation described most of the UFO sightings investigated, such as that of “strange lights” captured a few weeks ago in the Texas sky.
