woman-faces-$23,000-fine-just-for-painting-her-front-door-pink

A woman from Scotland, known only as Mrs Dickinson, is being fined £20 one thousand pounds sterling (about $23 thousand dollars) just for painting the front door of his house pink. The woman has criticized the city council that imposed the fine and claims that those city rules are 30 years out of date. The woman painted her front door last year as part of a renovation.

Now, Edinburgh City Council has asked her to paint the front door of the house, which is in the area of World Heritage Conservation of Edinburgh New Town. They ask for the door to be a bright white color to match the planning rules.

It should be noted that Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns gained UNESCO World Heritage status in 1995, which means that there are rules about changes that can be made to properties in the area, according to the Edinburgh News portal.

However, Mrs. Dickson, who inherited the property in 2019, believes this is a malicious fine and says the ruling is not in line with Edinburgh City Council’s own planning rules. She questions whether the rules that were put in place 30 years ago should be applicable today.

Ms. Dickson said, “There are cities in the UK like Bristol, Notting Hill and Harrogate which have bright colours. Arriving home and seeing the door of my house gives me joy, I am proud of it and it is my house, I own it”.

Mrs. Dickson will have to pay the fine of £20 one thousand pounds sterling unless unauthorized paint is removed.
