A Yonkers police sergeant who did almost nothing to stop two brothers from beating a victim as she lay on the ground has been placed on modified duty, city police said.
In several published tweets, the Yonkers police rejected the apparent lack of action of Sergeant Amy Kielb while two men punched, kicked and grappled with a subject in the past 25 October, everything was filmed by a security camera.
In the images obtained by the New York Post, the sergeant can be seen leaving a patrol car parked in a double row and saying something to the brothers, but without preventing them from continuing to hit the victim .
“To the Yonkers police sergeant who initially responded had his duty status modified and placed in an administrative capacity pending the outcome of the internal investigation,” the department tweeted.
“The Yonkers Police Department trains and expects its members respond and take the appropriate and necessary measures in situations like these, and it is clear from the video that it did not happen; due process will determine why.”
“We hold ourselves and our members accountable and will take steps to uphold the highest standards and professionalism.”
In the audiovisual material, the victim is shown with a bloody face falling to the floor while the two brothers continued with the savage attack.
Likewise, Kielb pauses for a moment before telling one of the men to move away and takes the other by the arm while he continues beating the victim.
Jonathan Teelin, aged 26 and his brother Felix Teelin, aged 22, were charged with felony assault, according to authorities. The attack stemmed from a dispute that spilled out onto the street from a local bar, police said.
The 22 year-old victim, a resident of Yonkers, is expected to be recover from her injuries.
In the first statement issued by the Yonkers police, they stated that his investigation was “conducting an internal investigation into the initial police response”, but did not divulge further details.
A department spokesperson, said in an email that Kielb, a veteran of the force for 11 years of service, was Modified commissioning on Friday pending internal investigation.
