basketball-tournament-canceled-to-prevent-kanye-west-team-from-participating

The recent anti-Semitic comments made by Kanye West continue to generate repercussions against him, at least in the sports world, where a basketball tournament has been suspended with the intention of preventing a team owned by the rapper from participating.

This is a university tournament organized by Morehouse College in Atlanta, which was suspended when it became known that the Donda Academy team, owned by Kanye West, would participate, with whom they prefer to keep their distance due to their controversial acts and statements.

The Donda Academy had scheduled to play against The Skills Factory on November 6, however, the Morehouse College of Atlanta issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the tournament and pointed out that it would not can accept “the recent divisive and unproductive statements” of the businessman and rapper.

“In its history, Morehouse College, perhaps more than any institution, has defended a di social course that promotes equality and healing, particularly in areas with racial, cultural and socioeconomic disparities”, reads part of the statement issued by the university.

This is not the only consequence that his controversial statements have brought to West. And it is that a week ago, the sports clothing and footwear company, Adidas, broke its relationship with him and canceled the millionaire contract they had. In addition, the production of the Yeezy, a shoe model that had the singer as the protagonist, stopped.

Likewise, various sports figures have marked their distance from Kanye, including Jaylen Brown, of the Boston Celtics and Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL.

Comment by Kanye West

West wrote a series of anti-Semitic messages on Twitter and Instagram in early October, and previously attended a parade in Paris wearing the slogan “White Lives Matter” (“White lives matter”), used often by white supremacists in response to the “Black Lives Matter” anti-racism movement.

Ye also faces a lawsuit for defamation from the family of George Floyd, the African American murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis (USA) in 2020, who claims 250 millions of dollars for saying in a podcast that the cause of his death was the use of fentanyl and not police violence
