Five home runs hit Tuesday by the Philadelphia Phillies offense, including one each by Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, led the win and shutout 7-0 against the Houston Astros in Game 3 of the Major League Baseball World Series Leagues, moving them to a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup.
The home run fest lit up the first game of the series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and started early with its top star Bryce Harper.
Just in the first episode Harper hit his sixth homer in the postseason and confirmed his position as the Phillies’ flagship player to put the score 2-0 early.
But since the outfielder’s task could not be incomplete, it was greatly complemented by another of the standouts in this postseason for Philadelphia, Kyle Schwarber, who shot his fourth Playoff HR in the fifth episode.
The home run party was joined by Alex Bohm, Rhys Hoskins and Brandon Marsh, the latter under arbitration review, to put definitive figures in favor of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s show of power left a no less important fact about Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr., who became the first pitcher in World Series history to allow five home runs in the same game of the October Classic.
The work of the Phillies was commanded from the mound by Venezuelan starter Ranger Suárez, who worked for five innings without allowing runs, giving a walk and striking out four batters.
