chicago-mass-shooting-leaves-14-people-shot-including-three-children-at-halloween-party

At least 14 people, including three minors, were injured in a drive-by shooting on Halloween night on the West Side Chicago, according to Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown.

The conditions of the victims vary from critical to non-fatal. So far no known deaths have been reported.

In a press conference on Monday night, Superintendent Brown announced that the youngest victim of the shooting is three years old, followed by a child of 11 and another from 13. The other people shot are adults.

In addition, authorities said that a woman who was trying to fleeing the scene was hit by a car while crossing vehicular traffic. The victim was transferred to a health center in good condition.

Several ambulances took the victims to different hospitals, including Stroger, Loyola, Northwetern and Mt. Sinai.

Brown stated that the situation, which was filmed by security cameras in the area, occurred in less than three seconds at 9: 30 of the night approx.

Although there are few details in this regard, the superintendent noted that a group was standing near the intersection of South California Avenue and West Polk Street, probably to launch a wake balloon, when the car pulled up and someone inside started shooting.

Inquiries into the shooting revealed that possibly two shooters were inside the vehicle.

Chicago police could not immediately determine if the incident was retaliation or gang related.

“They are simply young”, he expressed community activist Andrew Holmes about the children shot during the incident. “They are putting on an outfit just to enjoy the night and then you have a clown who goes and unloads that weapon, causing great physical harm to these families.”

The activist stated that he and other Community organizations work with families to offer post-shooting trauma counseling as victims recover.

Investigators continue to scour the area for evidence and have asked the general public with information to submit an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com or call the hotline at 311.

The authorities said they offer a reward of up to 15,000 dollars for information leading to the capture of the suspects.
