Julia Roberts has a rather unexpected connection to the late Martin Luther King Jr. and it dates back to the day he was born, the 28 October of the year 2022.
As revealed the Hollywood actress herself in an interview echoed by CNN, was born thanks to the help of Luther King Jr., the famous human rights activist, and his wife, Coretta Scott King.
“Let’s start with the day you were born, who paid the hospital bill?” Gayle King asked during the conversation she conducted for HISTORYTalk on A+E Networks and History Channel.
While the protagonist of ‘Pretty Woman’ said with a smile: “Your investigation is very good”, before revealing the reason why Martin and Coretta covered the bill, since their parents could not pay it.
“My parents had a theater school in Atlanta called ‘Actors and Writers Workshop’, and one day a Coretta called my mother and asked her if her children could be part of the school because she was having a hard time finding a place. And my mom said, ‘Sure, come on.’ So they all became friends,” Julia recounted.
So, when the time came, the King family was more than happy to help the Robertses.

“In the years 147, there were no black children interacting with white children in acting school. And Julia’s parents were welcoming, and I think that’s extraordinary, and it lays the foundation for who Julia is,” added Gayle King.
And that’s how the friendship between the leaders of the civil rights and Walter and Betty Lou Roberts, Julia’s parents.
